Free tools and plain-English guides for New Zealanders
Streetwise builds free tools that answer everyday New Zealand money, work, home and rights questions, and explains the rules behind them in plain-English articles, short videos and social posts.
What we do
Check a payslip, work out take-home pay, holiday pay and sick leave, find tenancy notice dates, compare renting with buying and see what prices cost your household. See all tools.
Short videos and posts on our socials lead to a full article here, with the tool behind it. Read the articles.
Where our numbers come from
Every tool names its official source on the page: Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Tenancy Services, Stats NZ, the Reserve Bank and vote.nz. Each tool shows the date it was last checked and a short note on how it works. Nobody can pay to change a result. Read how we check and correct our work.
Know where you stand
That is the whole idea behind Streetwise. Each tool answers one real question, one step at a time, in plain English. Every tool and article names its sources, so you can always check it yourself. See how we make things.
What we are not
- We are not the government, and we are not part of Inland Revenue, Employment New Zealand, Tenancy Services or any other agency we link to.
- We are not financial advisers or lawyers. Our tools give general information and estimates, not personal advice. For a decision that matters, check with the official source or an adviser.
- We are not tied to any political party. The election guide is neutral and never carries partner links or ads for any party, candidate or campaign.
Your privacy
The calculators work in your browser. What you type into a tool stays on your device. Advertising services, such as Google, may set cookies on our pages. See our privacy page for the full detail.
How we are funded
The tools are free with no sign-up. We list every way we earn money, and what is not live yet, on our how we stay free page.
