Tenancy Services is sending tenant numbers and landlord IDs

Your HomeBriefSource dated 29 September 2026

What happened

Tenancy Services is moving to a new online bond service. Tenants with an active bond have been emailed a tenant number, and some landlords with active bonds are now being sent a landlord ID.

A tenant number lets you update your contact details, see your bond balance and records, and respond to bond requests online. The tenant emails went out from late August to early September.

What it means for you

You do not need to do anything straight away. Tenancy Services says to save the email somewhere you can find it later, and to keep your number private, including from your landlord and other tenants.

Our take

Check your junk folder if you rent and never saw the email. Keeping that number safe matters more than it sounds, because it is the key to your bond record.

How sure we are. High on what the numbers are and who gets them, from Tenancy Services. We could not confirm from the notice whether anything changes in how a bond is lodged, so we have not said.
